Create more fulfilling, happy relationships in all areas of your life

Have you noticed that relationships can be your biggest source of happiness…or your worst nightmare? It seems that relationships in all areas–romantic, parental, siblings, coworkers, friends–are where we feel both tremendous struggle and great rewards. The key to happy relationships is simple: You must not care more about what the other person wants than what you want to be happy! Sounds selfish…and it is. But if you try to focus on what others want or what you think they want your internal guidance system has no “north star.” Abraham-Hicks often tell a story with the analogy of the navigation system in a car. If your navigation system displayed directions for everyone else on the road, and verbally gave you directions on how to get to their destinations as well as your own, it would be of no use to you. The power of the navigation system is that it knows where you are, where you want to go, and the shortest and best route to get there. So it is with your internal guidance system. Learn how to listen more closely and follow your own guidance and paradoxically achieve the happy relationships you so desire.

Sometimes, life seems to come at me from left field. This is one of those times. Uranus is behind the scenes with his erratic, eccentric, change-provoking, and self-empowering energies.

Planetary ruler of the sign of Aquarius (and also ruler of astrology, occultism and mysticism), Uranus signifies the fast-paced, unsettling, changes that are making my head spin.

Excerpt from Wikipedia article on astrology of the planets:

“For some modern Western astrologers, the planet Uranus (Uranus's astrological symbol.svg) is the ruling planet of Aquarius and is possibly exalted in Scorpio. In Greek mythology, Uranus is the personification of the heavens and the night sky. The planet Uranus is very unusual among the planets in that it rotates on its side, so that it presents each of its poles to the Sun in turn during its orbit; causing both hemispheres to alternate between being bathed in light and lying in total darkness over the course of the orbit. Uranus takes 84 years to orbit the Sun, spending about 7 years in each sign of the zodiac. Uranus was discovered only in 1781 by Sir William Herschel.

Astrologically modern interpretations associate Uranus with the principles of genius, individuality, new and unconventional ideas, discoveries, electricity, inventions, and the beginnings of the industrial revolution. Uranus governs societies, clubs, and any group dedicated to humanitarian or progressive ideals. Uranus, the planet of sudden and unexpected changes, rules freedom and originality. In society, it rules radical ideas and people, as well as revolutionary events that upset established structures. Uranus, among all planets, most governs genius.”

I’m practically panting as one relationship after another suddenly changes, ends, reverses, or takes on a new tone. I’m so grateful for my understanding of astrology to help me embrace these changes as necessary for my spiritual health.

The Uranian lightning bolts burn a bit when they hit, but with self-exploration and letting go of what’s not working in my life, the healing and growth continues. For me, the central theme of all of these experiences with Uranian energy seems to be finding ways to be free and independent while in a relationship.

Astrologer Steven Forrest hits the nail on the head here:

Uranus Transiting the Seventh House
Love and freedom may not be true opposites, but they’re not exactly natural bedmates either. If we love, we make compromises. In a spirit of gentleness and generosity toward those we love, we relinquish certain aspects of our natures. We forgive and we forebear. On top of that, intimacy itself breeds familiarity—and familiarity breeds blindness, numbness, and scripted behavior.

When Uranus shakes up the Seventh House, all those issues press—and not only in our sexual relationships; they press in our friendships and professional associations as well. In the name of love, we’ve sacrificed too much of the actual present reality of who we are. That’s the main reason we don’t feel “seen” That’s why we are behaving in rebellious and difficult ways, feeling ready to throw the baby out with the bath water. We must recognize that, while we may be looking at partnerships that have run their courses and are no longer viable, there’s a good chance that all we need to do is to “punch Reset”—put our cards on the table, demanding that our “deal” be re-designed to reflect the person we have actually become. Typically, that involves more “space” for each of us, less homogeneity in the partnership, and a lot more room for honest differences.

Where can you do a Uranian “reset” of your own in your life? You needn’t wait for Uranus to instigate the changes. Don’t worry about what others will think as you make sudden “do-overs” that feel right to you. Friends and family may find it hard to keep up with you right now!
