I Ching

I Ching readings for transpersonal focus

For the last five years, I’ve use the I Ching to help me choose a single focal point for my new year’s resolutions. In my post about using the I Ching in this way, I describe the process and resources to interpret the reading. It’s been enlightening for me to look over the readings from these past few years and reflect on what actually happened that year.

In 2011, my I Ching reading guided me to concentrate on (10) Conduct. The interpretation from The I Ching Workbook by R. L. Wing (my favorite) begins with:

“This can be a brilliant and inspiring time. It can also be a time of danger. Everything depends on the way you CONDUCT yourself.”

Turns out, this reading was spot on. Much happened this year that allowed me the opportunity to enjoy a wonderful time or experience great conflict…especially in the realm of personal relationships.

The interpretation goes on to say:

“The time is truly difficult in personal relationships. Consider now the goals and desires of those close to you. If there are misunderstandings or confusion, maintain your composure. Good fortune comes through conducting yourself with thoughtfulness and courtesy.”

Although these words may sound simplistic, with the benefit of hindsight I can see how prophetic they were. I wish I had paid a little more attention to this message all year. My personal relationships were a tad rocky at times, and it was through patience and trying to maintain my inner balance and composure that I made it through the tough parts. “Taking the high road” and remembering some good advice I once received helped me greatly. The advice was to think about which choice will make you feel proud of yourself afterwards. I think being courteous and thoughtful fall into that category.

Meditation Can Facilitate Your I Ching Oracle

This year, it is with renewed motivation that I select my focal point for 2012. Not only do I have the “I told you so” feeling from my inner being about last year, but I also feel the excitement and eager anticipation of what the special year of 2012 may hold for me. I approached my reading this year with wonder and appreciation for the amazing guidance we each have within us. To facilitate the greatest insight, I meditated to Initiation: Inside the Great Pyramid by Steven Halpern. He spent a week recording his chants and vocalizations inside the Great Pyramid and the sounds moved me to a higher consciousness. He gives a nod to Edgar Cayce and his organization in the CD notes, so I feel a connection with the work.

My I Ching oracle guided me to center on (33) Retreat changing to (31) Attraction for 2012. The changing hexagram usually represents a condition that is passing, so “Retreat” seems to represent the time I’ve been taking for self-reflection in the last six months of 2011.

Moving forward to 2012, “Attraction” is the keynote.  Wing’s interpretation begins:

“The universe as we know it is held together and governed by the various laws of ATTRACTION. From the vast movements of the solar system in infinite space to the perfectly balanced center of the atom, these mutual attractions create all things. In life, these attractions manifest themselves in a complex network of desire, perseverance, and fulfillment. Life begets life and evolves itself in an ordered and divine fashion. The ATTRACTION between mates, with an underlying interest toward social unity and, perhaps, progeny, is the emphasis here. This magnetism is not a superficial desire. It is the beginning of the most basic social unit, the family, just as the atom, with the ATTRACTION of its positive and negative charges, is the basic material unit.”

I’ll be paying more attention to my reading this year, you can be sure! What guidance does your I Ching oracle have for you? I’d love to hear from you about your reading so we can continue the conversation.

Best wishes for a Happy New Year in 2012! In my next post, I’ll share some thoughts about what we need to know and do in 2012 to take advantage of this special, exciting time of the ending of one Great World Age and the beginning of another.
